SLF Prevention Project: The Aurora Project

The aim of the Aurora prevention project is to provide an intervention to prevent first time sexual offending. Treatment will be offered to adults who self-identify as having an offence related sexual interest or have concerns that they may commit a sexual offence. The project will offer treatment to clients regardless of the focus of their interest (e.g. children, adults etc.).

Aims and objectives

  • To provide a free treatment service for individuals who are concerned about their sexual interests and/or that they may sexually offend with the aim of helping these individuals to manage their sexual interests and prevent potential abuse from occurring.
  • To gather and use evidence-based best practice and service-user involvement which will underpin all aspects of the prevention project.

Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced registered psychologist or psychotherapist to lead on an innovative and exciting community-based treatment intervention to prevent first time sexual offending. As the first of its kind in the UK, you will be at the cutting edge of intervention development. Joining an existing team, you will take a key role in the delivery of an intervention for adults who self-identify as having an offence related interest or have concerns that they my commit a sexual offence. You will lead on the clinical oversight and direction of the service.  You will already have a good grasp of the evidence base for sexual offending interventions and or prevention interventions as well as experience in delivering these and ideally be familiar with the research around prevention of sexual offending. This is a unique opportunity to be involved in leading the way in prevention interventions and is excellent career development, offering both clinical and research opportunities.

You will be based in Nottinghamshire, with provision made for working from home as and when necessary. The post will be for 24 hours per week and will initially be for one year with the expectation that this will then be extended. Renewal thereafter will depend upon additional funding being received. We are happy to consider secondments.
